Yes, the artwork depicts Asgard and Earth to be extremely close, but this is simply the artistic freedom to depict the armies venturing onto Earth. It's consistently made clear that Asgard is extremely far away from Earth, and even on later pages Thor needs to use a ship to fly toward the Serpent, whose travel is described as going "on and ever on"

The tree contains the 9 realms and grows withinand throughout the universe. There is vastly more context to this than just being a Universal feat, as can be read about here . Each Realm is it's own space time parallel to the mortal Universe, with Yggdrasil itself containing a Multiverse.
