Summary[]

Mercurius is a Hegemony God and the fourth God to take the Throne, serving as the setting for the visual novel Dies Irae.

Having used his Law to reset all of creation countless times, he grew tired of the existence of being God whose Law cannot be undone or removed by his lonesome, and which curses him with knowledge of all things in creation, preventing him from truly experiencing anything new. During one of his many travels in the World through his Sensory, Mercurius came across the execution of Marie during the years of the Reign of Terror in the French Revolution. Noting not only her beauty and purity, but as a being who exists outside his World, Mercurius became infatuated with her existence, a being of phenomenon beyond all he's come to know and will know.

Knowing that she will forever wander by her lonesome outside of his Law due to being a Transcendent God upon her initial death, he made a goal to orchestrate a way to have her become his successor as well as grant him the only end that he desires and acknowledges so he can finally pass on in peace and to experience the unknown. From that, Mercurius started to create a "stage" where its cast, including his best friend and creation, all exist to have Marie replace him and become the new Heaven on the Throne.

Powers and Stats[]

Dimensionality: 3D | Inapplicable

Threat Level: Varies. At least Wolf+ to Maoh+, likely far higher | Omni-

Powers and Abilities:

  • Magic (Often spoken of as a wielder of Sorcery. Created the Magical Formula of Ewigkeit, which he taught to the L.D.O., and has also taught Rusalka the ways of Sorcery in the past).
  • Teleportation (Can freely travel to and from the Twilight Beach, which exists outside of time and space as well as the Throne itself. Can also freely travel to and from Gladsheimr, which exists in a detached state from the World of Foreknowledge along with destroying its concepts of distance and coordinates that makes it next to impossible to approach)

All abilities and resistances on an unimaginably higher level minus Immortality (Type 9), Nonexistent Physiology, and an immunity to: Biological Manipulation and Soul Manipulation.

  • Has the following abilities of a Hegemony God and those shared by others

Physical Strength: Varies. At least Small Building level to Multi-Continent level, likely far higher | Meta Dimensional

Attack Potency: Varies. At least Small Building to Multi-Continent (Was always regarded as Reinhard's equal since their fated encounter, with the two being stated to be on a "level of their own" in comparison to others), likely far higher (According to Masada, Karl is one of four people in Omega Ewigkeit who had the power to break the[Note 1] Divine Vessel; the other three being Reinhard himself, Finale Ren, and Goëtz Von Berlichingen through his abilities). Can ignore conventional durability in a number of ways | Meta Dimensional (As a Hegemony God, Mercurius is a God who possess the ability to paint over all that is in creation. Everything from the universe/multiverse and all of its nigh-infinite laws to even those that exist beyond it such as the Singularity, a blank white canvas that exist underneath the world and is where all laws and concepts sprang forth from, and the Throne, a hyper-dimensional space indescribable in nature and lacks the very concept of time, all follow suit to the changes and modifications of that God's Craving, including laws and concepts like higher-dimensions. Destroyed the Throne as an after-effect in his fight with Reinhard in Rea Route. One-shotted Nerose Satanael. According to Masada, Mercurius power at his full potential is greater than that of Twilight, Morningstar, Gold, and The Moment)

Durability: Varies. At least Small Building to Multi-Continent, likely far higher (Should be comparable to his Attack Potency). Additionally, his his Nonexistent nature and Immortality makes him extremely hard to kill | Meta Dimensional (Tanked numerous attacks from The Gold and his Legion)

Speed: Varies. At least Superhuman to Massively Hypersonic, likely far higher (Though his Sensory doesn't fight much, he should at least be comparable to Reinhard as being his constant equal. Karl also casually kept up with and traded blows with Ren in Kei Route, and had reacted to Reinhard's brief retaliation earlier before.) | Omnipresent in his territory (A Hegemony God is all-present wherever their Law is painted over, thus they are everywhere and can perceive everything that happens in those territories)

Intelligence: Super Genius. Mercurius is the creator of several Sorcery formulas, including Die Ewigkeit, which is considered as "a beginner's manual" to become a God that he taught to all members of the Obsidian Round Table. In addition to this, he was also able to revolutionize the entire Throne by implanting the foreign concept of the Multiverse. However, the countless loops made him mad, to the point where he couldn't keep track of them and became obsessed with the idea of dying and experiencing the unknown; but he was shown to be able to handle his insanity as a Sensory.

Stamina: Limitless (Did not wane in stamina even after being subjected to Methuselah's time acceleration sorcery, which was rapidly and repeatedly erasing the L.D.O and even the Legion of Gladsheimr to dust) | Limitless

Range: Varies, up to Transcendent (Created a whole replica of the Suwahara Ritual's swastikas, whereupon he crushed it in his grasp and thus erased the active swastikas opened in Kei Route. Karl also has shown the ability to freely travel to and from the Twilight Beach, which exists outside of time and space and even the Throne itself. Can also freely travel to and from Gladsheimr, which exists in a detached state from the World of Foreknowledge along with destroying its concepts of distance and coordinates) | Transcendent (Hegemony Gods emanation constantly expands until all creation is painted in their Law, from the very universe/multiverse to even the Throne, an indescribable space of higher-dimensional nature that also lacks the concept of time)

Weakness: Obsessed with Marie, and is willing to do anything to be with her. Otherwise, nothing notable.

Key: Sensory | True Self

Arsenal[]

Zarathustra UbermenschPrinciple of the Transcended Man: Mercurius Ahnenerbe, a Special Manifestation Type. It is the true identity of Ren Fujii, his substitute as the Round Table's 13th Seat. At the time of WW2, the 7th Seat of the L.D.O was vacant. There, Mercurius and Reinhard's interests were piqued in creating a ritual in Gladsheimr that can determine who can fill the final seat. The result was a battle royale of 60,000 soldiers who died in WW2, among them being Lotus Reichhart and Michael Wittman. After a grueling battle between the Einherjar candidates, the battle was finally won by Michael Wittman, who then absorbed all of the 60,000 souls including that of his best friend and comrade Lotus. Mercurius then came to split Lotus' soul in half, taking one half and mixing it with his divine blood that resulted in Ren's creation while the other half was left behind to Michael who went on to become Goëtz Von Berlichingen. Mercurius' Ahnenerbe is an autonomous one and like that of Trifa's and Machina's, Zarathustra Ubermensch is essentially a constantly active Relic. Aside from serving as Mercurius' substitute, Ren possess a unique ability of his own: the manipulation to wield any and all Holy Relic's. As someone who Mercurius created not only as his substitute but also tailor-made his Sorcery of Die Ewigkeit for him, Ren can gain control of any Relic he gets his hands on such as Beatrice, Kei's, and Rusalka's regardless of compatibility between him and the Relics, though this still leaves him incapable of handling Longinuslanze for only Reinhard is permitted to wield it in Omega Ewigkeit. This feature also comes with the ability of gaining different Craving's for any Relic he possess, shown in his ability of gaining a new Ber'iah after the loss of his initial Relic in Kei Route. Through this, Ren, the Throne God's substitute and living Relic, is more than a match for even the Golden Beast when the two ascended to Godhood.

Noteworthy Techniques and Abilities[]

Arte of divinity, extolled genius, alien diction: mankind’s bane, the heart’s lament. A bond from fortune wrought, its core in tragedy tested, chiseled to perfection. Fortune, O mistress ever so fickle: you claim for your own all that was once given. Blind is Fortune, yet blind, too, are those that seek refuge in her light. Reason’s shackles bind you not: quench, at times, your thirst with folly’s pearls. Revel and drink and frolic in life, for Hades holds no circus for the fallen!
Atziluth: Vive Memor Mortis - Acta Est Fabula!

– Mercurius enacting his Law

Vive Memor Mortis - Acta Est FabulaLive Mindful of Death - The Play is Over: The manifestation of Mercurius’ Law, derived from his desire “To experience the unknown, to die in the arms of Marie" and "I want to start all over, for any other end than that is unacceptable". A desire born to experience the unknown, to embrace death through the arms of the Goddess of the Twilight who escaped even the binding of his Law and keep on living no matter what until his desired ending is met. This manifests in the form of complete renewal, a Law that ignores the rules of time and causality to completely reset All of Creation, including all of its infinite universes and timelines, back to the very instant Mercurius took hold of the Throne. The strength of this Law's Craving rejects any ending Mercurius himself does not acknowledge or is unsatisfied with, even working against his living Apoptosis or a being much stronger than him (However, for the latter, this will only work after they are weakened and Mercurius emanates his Law through the Throne once more, and even then the possibility of it happening is said by WoG to be "astronomically low"). This Law's renewal even works in reviving back other Gods who have died such as Reinhard, Marie, and Ren after the fight against Hajun in addition to erasing factors that can lead the latter's rising.

  • Kamungara: The physical manifestation of a Hegemony God's Law, existing as a universe within them. A Power Vision to conquer all, a feature shared by all Hegemony Gods and their Legion. The manifested Kamunagara can be manipulated to move and attack, with the user's Craving being used as the source for attacks. The user can also potentially take their target inside their Kamunagara, whereupon they are essentially inside that user's World from which there are no blind spots around nor can surprise attacks be made. When summoned, however, the Kamunagara can potentially suffer damage, of which some are received back to the user though due to simply being a Power Vision, the user will not die even if it were erased though they will still suffer major damage in the process. Mercurius' takes the form of a massive Caduceus coiling around all of creation as confirmed by Masada.
  • Astrology Manipulation: As a result of his Law encompassing All of Creation, Mercurius has complete control over the very World itself. From manipulating the movement and rotations of planets and the alignment of stars, creating meteor showers and a Great Attractor, even using the very galaxy itself to make anything or anyone to never exist in the first place, the whole of creation is nothing but a script for him to manipulate, with concepts like time being noting more than a mere toy for him to play. As everything is an expression of his Law, Mercurius' uses this as his form of combat should he ever find himself confronted with a God or a being comparable to him in nature and power to fight. The following attacks are listed below:
    • Meteor Shower: Mercurius converts hundreds of millions of souls in the multiverse into meteors and launches all of them at his target, with each and every one of them having the power to match the entirety of Reinhard's Legion (said Legion numbering in the millions).
    • Supernova: Mercurius unleashes a Supernova that consists of thousands upon thousands of stars condensed into a single blast that can atomize Gods from the inside. This move was also powerful enough to have been able to instantly kill Nerose Satanael, a past Hegemony God equal in power to the likes of Ren and Reinhard, in one hit.
    • Great Attractor: Mercurius creates a Great Attractor which draws everything towards it into a singularity.
    • Grand Cross: Mercurius aligns the stars of Omega Ewigkeit into a Grand Cross, causing an astrological energy surge and gravitational pull across the multiverse that affects even Hegemony Gods.
    • Elementary Particle Time Paradox: Mercurius makes all of existence into an elementary particle and sends it into the past of the opponent, thus causing a paradox and erasing them from existence. This power can affect even multiple Hegemony Gods.
    • Black Hole: Mercurius condenses all the stars in the multiverse into a black hole that destroys everything. This is his strongest attack as it completely erases everything in existence, including the Singularity he and Reinhard fought in and even the Throne itself.

Quotes[]

My love is yours. Allow me to kneel before you, O flower.

– Cagliostro declaring his love to Marie

What if I said that one's entire life had been decided by fate? That every single one of your actions, from the minute to the monumental, stemmed not from your own choices, but had already been decided upon? That life being a journey of limitless possibilities was but an illusion, and no matter how fiercely man struggled, he stood at the mercy of a long-established path? The wealthy shall know their riches. The needy shall starve on the streets. The wicked shall be wicked, the righteous just. The beautiful, the hideous, the strong, the frail, the fortunate, the miserable... and finally, the victors and the defeated. What if I said that all such things had been carved into stone eons ago, allowing for no divergence? If so, sinners have nothing to answer for, nor do saints have any true virtue to their name. What if I said that not a single action is carried out of one's own volition, but had been decided long ago? That we are merely adrift in the current of time? Tell me, would you feel content with such a world? A world in which power is merely given, not earned - would you accept knees bent to a throne build upon such falsities? A universe where the sinless have-nots are oppressed and downtrodden - would you allow such a world to exist? Never, I say. Never.

– Karl's narration

Let the curtains rise on tonight's Grand Guignol.

Come, gather and bear witness to my opera, now in the making. Its script is the height of cliché, I am forced to admit. And yet… Its actors are of the finest fold; beyond exquisite. Thus, I believe you will find it enthralling.

Notes/Explanations[]

  1. Masada Takashi: Vanaheimr Lohengrin is treated as a death flag in the story. The only ones who can truly beat Trifa in a fight are the two leaders, Machina, and Finale Ren
