Introduction
Immortality is the term given to people who simply cannot die from natural means, for any number of reasons. But that does not mean the character having this ability cannot die by any means, because there are different types of Immortality, all of which have their own weaknesses which can be exploited. At best Immortality can limit the number of ways a person dies, but not truly make it unkillable, especially when matched up against characters from other fictions.
List of different types of Immortality which will be used in TSW are as follows:
Types
1: Eternal Life: Characters gifted with this type of immortality cannot die from old age, but can be killed by unnatural causes. They are also obviously vulnerable to wounds and can die from those. Not to be confused with Longevity, as a character with longevity just have longer lifespans than an average human, and will eventually die of old age, as opposed to Eternal Life, for which dying of old age is not possible.
- Examples: Galactus (Marvel Comics), Ajimu Najimi (Medaka Box), Angel (Tekken)
2: Immortality without Regeneration: Characters with this degree of immortality can survive a high degree of physical damage, though they cannot regenerate from it.
3: Immortality via Regeneration: Characters who can regenerate from wounds that would normally be lethal, though the usefulness depends on the degree of said regeneration.
- Examples: Alucard (Hellsing), Buu (Dragon Ball), Hourai Immortals (Touhou Project)
4: Immortality via Self-Resurrection: Characters who, at death, will return to life in the current on in another form/body, may it be instantly after their death or in a later point of time.
- Examples: Aang (Avatar - The Last Airbender), Devils from Chainsaw Man
5: Immortality via Replacements: Characters who can avoid to die from simply having copies of their bodies at their disposal to replace the current one when it is destroyed, may them be stored in another space and taken from there or even from across all the points of time, making in this case their destruction in the present completely meaningless as they can just return from either the past or the future.
- Examples: Monokuma (Danganronpa), Kyubey (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
6: Parasitic: The person attains a sort of immortality by body-hopping, transferring their soul to another body when the current one dies, may it be living or inanimate. Possession is generally used in this type of immortality.
- Examples: Teridax (Bionicle), Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th), Orochimaru and the Ōtsutsuki clan (Naruto), Darth Sidious (Star Wars Legends), M. Bison (Street Fighter)
7: Undead: Characters who have this type of immortality can't die as they're already dead. This doubles up with other types of immortality, other than being generally impossible to kill through conventional means. Not to be confused with Undead Physiology.
- Examples: Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th), Edo Tensei zombies (Naruto), Squigly (Skullgirls)
8: Reliant Immortality: The power to be immortal as long as a certain object, person, concept, etc. exists. This kind of characters ususally benefits of more types of immortality, due to them being unable to die as long as the source of said immortality exists, losing them all or even instantly dying if said source is destroyed.
- Examples: Voldemort - reliant on Horcruxes (Harry Potter), Fairies - reliant on aspects of nature (Touhou Project), AIM Burst - reliant on the Level Upper Network (To Aru Majutsu No Index), Kain - reliant on the Pillars of Nosgoth (Legacy of Kain)
9: Transcendental Immortality: Characters whose true selves exist independently from the plane where they can be killed due to their true form being in another realm. For example, a conceptual being doesn't die even if its body, soul, etc. are erased from existence. Characters with this type of immortality are usually higher dimensional characters who manifest themselves in lower planes with avatars or other kinds of manifestation.
- Examples: Angels and Demons from Bastard!!
10: Meta-Immortality: Entities that are not alive or dead in a conventional sense, standing outside the ordinary laws of reality, temporality, and dimensionality (of any number). If it is possible to destroy such a character, it can only be accomplished by a being of a similar or higher existence.
- Examples: Characters from Umineko no Naku Koro ni
11: Deathless Immortality: Characters who aren't bound by life or death due to their existence being beyond both life and death, or because they're simply nonexistent, and thus cannot be killed in traditional ways. Typically, abilities such as Conceptual Manipulation, Void Manipulation, Existence Erasure or Reality Warping are needed to destroy them.
- Examples: Chaos (Nanatsu no Tanzai), Chara (UNDERTALE), D (Vampire Hunter D)
