Summary
Not much about Azazel's history is known, according to Jin, he was known as the "Rectifier". It was said that he ruled over humans "thousands of years ago." At some point, the humans rebelled and overthrew him, and the beast was imprisoned behind a magical seal by Zafina's ancient ancestors. He was imprisoned in the very temple that was once built in his name, which seems to have ended up disappearing from the mortal plane entirely as a result of the magic.
Alternatively, the temple was simply buried deep beneath the sands. During its imprisonment, a legend among Zafina's clan would spawn that said that Azazel would awaken and destroy the world when "two dark stars" clash in battle.

Superhuman Physical Characteristics, Immortality (Types 1 and 3), Higher-Dimensional Existence (Type 1, stated that he exists on a higher plane of existence, above earthly laws and that filling the world with negative energy was gonna give him physical form), Enhanced Senses (scales from Jin, whom can sense other beings or energies, including somebody power and emotions), Energy Projection and Limited Fire Manipulation (can shoot lasers from his forehead and set others on fire with them, scales from Jin, whom shown the capability of igniting fire out of his attacks), Paralysis and Fear Inducement and possibly Matter Manipulation (can paralyze an individual movements with one of his moves, his appearance can overwhelm those who see it and has the power to reduce beings to ashes, it also shown to be able to frighten others with his appearance), Large Size (Type 1, taller then about all characters in the series, many of whom are over 2 meters tall), Summoning and Minor Durability Negation (capable of summoning boulders of crystal and scarabs, with the former he can still harm an opponent even when they are blocking attacks, with other normal moves not being able to do the same from him), Telepathy (spoke to Jin in his mind to fill the world with negative energy, he displayed this ability to others as well), Teleportation (can suddenly appear in the air, should scale to other Devil Gene users too), Regeneration (Mid, scales from Jin, whom regenerated from getting gunned down and shot in the head, Azazel also shown he can grow back limbs, even most of his head too), Light Generation (can glow and generate blinding light), Magma Manipulation (caused a geologically impossible event to have magma start erupting throughout the vicinity of a village), Transformation (into his Golden form), Soul Absorption (Devil Gene users can absorb someone soul and add it to their own power), Telekinesis (they can directly knock out, lift and choke people with it, blow things up from the inside, essentially negating durability and even toss out a meteor at them), Dream Manipulation (scaling from Kazuya, whom taunted Jin in his mind when he was unconscious), Invisibility (scaling from Kazumi, whom shown the ability to become invisible when fighting Heihachi), Intangibility (Type 4, scaling from Kazuya, whom can phase through others like a ghost), Non-Physical Interaction (scaling from Kazuya, whom was capable of punching Shin Akuma, even when he was going intangible), Non-Corporeal (he was awakened in spirit form and then had to gain a physical form, also survived supposed death after his body was destroyed, but his spirit remained), Limited Invulnerability (can make himself invulnerable to physical attacks for a short amount of time, even in the middle of his attacks), Flight (can fly and levitate), Possession (scaling from Kazuya, as part of his devil was about to possess Jin unborn body), Wind Manipulation (capable of generating gusts of wind this powerful), Forcefield Creation (can generate a barrier to shield from physical and energy based attacks), Corruption (Type 2, the dark purplish orb inside him can infect someone with the Devil Gene), Death Manipulation (characters who destroyed his body end up dying shortly after), Self-Sustenance (Type 1) and Resistance to Cosmic Radiation, Extreme Cold, Death Manipulation, Soul Manipulation, Likely Corruption (Type 2) and Possession (scales from Jin, whom can survive in the vacuum of space, with no need for oxygen, also scales from Jin and Heihachi, from the former whom didnt die after killing and destroying Azazel body in order to end him, which brings death to others who do so and the latter whom survived the raging demon by sheer durability from Akuma, scales from Heihachi and Jin, as the former managed to resist Ogre absorbing his soul despite likely taking it from other fighters and many died as well and the latter for still having the devil gene when Ogre tried the same on him, he shouldnt be affected by his own orb that corrupts others as the original source to the Devil Gene, also scaling to Jin and Kazuya, whom were able to overcome the Devil Gene from controlling their mind and body)

Weaknesses: Since he is the originator of the Devil Gene, he would also possibly have the weaknesses to the holy powers from the likes of Angel, members of the Kazama bloodline and Archers of Sirius, along the chains specifically made Heihachi has to neutralize Devil Gene user powers.
